This year, I’m doing some admin work for Stories of Life. On one level, it is a writing competition, seeking stories of faith and testimony, with $4,500 worth of cash prizes to be won. On another level, it represents a chance to get published; all short listed entries will be published in an anthology at the end of the year. Some stories will also be broadcast on Life FM in Adelaide. Some of the best things about this job is writing to people to ask for photos of their writing space, and for the story-behind-the-story. You can check out some of those amazing stories here.
At a writing workshop in 2017, I met John Duthie and Terri Mak. Their book project, My disABILITY, sounded really interesting – a collection of stories of people with disabilities, that focuses on their abilities. Since then, I have become a writer for the team, and have written the story of Michael Kuhn and am in the process of writing Terri’s story. Terri has been a tetraplegic since her injury some years ago, but goes sailing and scuba-diving all the same. It’s true! I captured it all on video.
It has been a joy to get to know John, Terri, Michael and Michael’s mum, Kathleen.
